Job Overview
Location: Hamilton, Ontario
Structure: Tall three-storey Victorian centre home (commercial office use)
Problem: Mouse activity reported and confirmed throughout interior office areas
Service: Mouse treatment
Visits: 2
Summary
Pest Control Hamilton was contacted regarding ongoing mouse activity inside a commercial office operating within a converted Victorian-style structure. The issue had persisted for several years despite prior treatment attempts. Our team completed a two-visit mouse treatment program, including inspection, monitoring, and station maintenance, while also identifying structural entry concerns.
Background / Property Context
The property is a tall, three-storey Victorian centre home adapted for commercial office use. Due to its age and construction style, the building contains multiple wall cavities, utility penetrations, and exterior transition points that can allow rodent access if not sealed.
Customer Concern
The customer reported scratching noises within the walls and confirmed live mice observed inside the office. Activity had been ongoing since approximately 2019, with no sustained reduction despite extended treatment efforts.
Inspection & Findings
During the initial inspection, evidence consistent with mouse activity was observed throughout interior office areas. This included droppings along floor edges and behind fixtures. Exterior inspection identified conditions suitable for rodent travel and access near ground level.
Photos provided show:
- A tamper-resistant exterior bait station containing rodent bait material, positioned near landscaped areas.
- Interior droppings and bait remnants along baseboards and floor junctions, indicating continued mouse movement within the office.
Cause Analysis
The ongoing activity was attributed to unsealed exterior entry points combined with the building’s age and construction features. Older Victorian structures often have gaps around foundations and service penetrations that allow mice to enter repeatedly. Without exclusion work, treatment alone is typically insufficient to resolve chronic infestations.
Treatment / Removal
Mouse treatment was performed by a licensed exterminator in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines. Tamper-resistant bait stations containing approved rodenticide were installed and serviced to control activity. Monitoring focused on interior and exterior pressure points identified during inspection.

Exclusion & Repairs
During the first visit, our technician provided an on-site quote for sealing identified rodent entry points. The customer chose not to proceed with exclusion work at that time. No sealing or structural repairs were completed as part of this service.
Outcome & Confirmation
At the second visit, bait stations were rebaited and warranties were updated. Activity levels had not shown a significant decrease since the initial treatment, reinforcing that exclusion is a critical component of long-term mouse control. No limitations were reported during either visit.
Technician Notes
Shaohua conducted both service visits, completing inspection, treatment, and station maintenance. Findings were reviewed with the customer, with clear explanation provided regarding the role of entry point sealing in preventing recurring mouse activity.
