Hamilton, ON

Job Overview

Location: Hamilton, Ontario
Structure: Two-storey semi-attached brick home with raised basement and low roof
Problem: Mouse activity reported inside the home following prior treatment; exclusion and disinfection not previously addressed
Service: Mouse exclusion and rodent dropping disinfection
Visits: Two visits

Summary

Pest Control Hamilton was contacted to inspect a property in Hamilton after the homeowner reported indoor mouse activity. A previous pest treatment had been completed elsewhere, but no exterior exclusion or sanitation work was provided. Our team was asked to identify exterior entry points, complete exclusion where required, and address interior contamination from rodent droppings.

Background / Property Context

The home is a two-storey, semi-attached brick structure with a raised basement. Several exterior service penetrations and wall vents were present along the brick façade, typical of older residential construction in the area.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported seeing a mouse inside the living space and was concerned that access points remained open. They also requested a quote for professional disinfection of rodent droppings found indoors.

Inspection & Findings

During the initial visit, the exterior was inspected for potential rodent entry points, including vents and utility line penetrations. The interior was also checked for signs of rodent activity, including droppings. Multiple exterior openings were identified as accessible to mice.

Cause Analysis

Small gaps around utility penetrations and unscreened wall vents can allow mice to access wall cavities and interior spaces. Brick structures with aging mortar or plastic vent covers are particularly susceptible when protective barriers are not in place. Once inside, mice can travel through wall voids and emerge into living areas.

Treatment / Removal

No trapping or chemical treatment was required as the request focused on exclusion and sanitation. All pest-related work was carried out by a licensed exterminator in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines.

Exclusion & Repairs

On the second visit, our team completed the approved work scope. Two accessible plastic wall vents were sealed using custom-fitted galvanized steel cages. One utility line penetration was sealed using a combination of galvanized steel mesh and exterior-grade caulking to prevent rodent entry while maintaining service clearance.

Outcome & Confirmation

Interior rodent droppings were removed using a HEPA-filtered shop vacuum. The affected areas were then disinfected using hospital-grade botanical sterilizers applied with an industrial fogger. All identified exterior entry points were sealed, and no further rodent activity was reported following completion of the work.

Technician Notes

The inspection and exclusion work were completed over two visits. Technician Shaohua noted clear access to all identified entry points and no site limitations during either visit. Photographs taken after completion show galvanized steel vent cages securely fastened to the brick exterior and utility line penetrations fully sealed.
